4 AT O ’ R E I L L Y ’ S Carat – Carat is the weight of a stone. It is th unit of measure we use for diamonds and gemstones, where 1 carat = 0.2 gram. All other factors being equal, i.e., colour clarity and cut, prices for diamonds are usually given per carat. There are cer tain carat weights that cause a price jump, for example 0.99ct would be priced less than 1.00ct. Colour – A diamond’s colour is observed along its greatest width. For colourless to near colourless diamonds, all other factors being equal, the more colourless the diamond the greater the value. With fancy colour diamonds the rarity, desirability and intensity of colour would affect the price. The introduction of impurities within the diamond such as nitrogen or boron can relate to the colour that is observed. Clarity – The clarity of a diamond refers to a stone’s freedom from inclusions, graded from a scale of ‘flawless’ to ‘imperfect’. Internal characteristics or inclusions are features which are enclosed within the stone or extend from its surface. External characteristics or blemishes are found on the LIVE AUCTION OF FINE JEWELLERY, WATCHES, SILVER & COINS • WEDNESDAY, 22nd OCT 2025 AT 12PM Lot 388: A FIVE STONE DIAMOND RING, the old cut diamonds to a carved 18ct gold mount.
