9 L IVE AUCT ION, 8t h Oc tober 2025 a t 12pm | THE DES IGN SALE Lot 263: A MID 20TH CENTURY ITALIAN SICAS SESTA FIORENTINO SHAPED PINK CERAMICVASE, of naturalistic form, design 599 in overlaid gilt, ca 15" high Estimated €200 - €250 and gold, making it appear as there is a universe within each one. Mdina Glass was set up in Malta in 1968 by Michael Harris, a British glassw ork lecturer from the Royal College of Art, along wi th another R.C.A. colleague Eric Dobson. Par t of Harris' deal to set up his business on the islan d was that he had to teach his was of glassblowing to anyone who was eager to learn - which he did happily. In fact, the company today is still run by the family of his first student, Joseph Said. Mdina glass pieces are each unique with natural forms; different to mass produced goods we often find today. Lot 263 is another lot that would brighten even the smallest space. This pink vase by Sicas Sesto Fiorentino has a gold lustre and ridged pattern that gives it an almost magical under-the-sea effect, as though it is a large shell that has been taken from the ocean.This mid-century vase would be the perfect piece for anyone trying to bring a retro look to their 21st century home. Both of these lots have a lot of character and would be stand out pieces in any home or even office-space! Both are mid- century pieces bringing an edge that modern ceramics and glasswork cannot always convey.
