6 THE DES IGN SALE | L IVE AUCT ION, 13 May 2026 a t 12pm Natasha Bernon FGA Among his most significant works are two extraordinary state commissions. In 2010, he was selected to create a gift on behalf of the Irish State for Queen Elizabeth II during her historic official visit to Ireland. Unaware of the recipient at the time, Killen crafted his now-iconic “Newgrange” brooch—a piece inspired by the ancient passage tomb and its symbolic carvings. The brooch was ultimately presented to the Queen, marking a moment of cultural and diplomatic significance. He was also commissioned by the Office of PublicWorks to create a pair of cufflinks for President Barack Obama, once again drawing on his “Newgrange” design—an enduring motif in his body of work that reflects Ireland’s rich archaeological and ar tistic legacy. This collection brings together an exceptional body of work that not only showcases Killen’s technical mastery but also tells a story of Irish identity, history, and innovation through gold.
