His pieces primarily focus on the huma n body and the nude, with some examples of more abstract subject matter. After a life surrounded by ar tists and o ther creatives in continental Europe, Sokolov returned to Ireland in 1997 to care for his parents inWest Cork. He continued to work and exhibit in Dublin on his retur n. Alexander Sokolov passed away on Ma rch 8th 2022 after a shor t illness and leaves behind a legacy of great talent and bea utiful sculpture. In the Design Sale we have an untitled f emale form, carved in white Carrera marble.T he sculpture is consistent with Sokolov’s ta ille directe method of carving, allowing the chisel to find the human form within the stone a nd guide him to the final work.This sculpture is made to be viewed in-the-round to fully experie nce the true form. From the front, the carv ed marble appears as a female form, while viewing the work from other angles, a s ofter organic form appears.
