FINE JEWELLERY, WATCHES, SILVER & COINS 24th June at 12pm

8 FROZEN in TIME AT O’REILLY’S With the recent release of the new Audemars Piguet x Swatch ‘Royal Pop’, there has been a resurgence of interest in pocket watches. While we did not manage to get our hands on one of these trendy new pocket watches (though we tried), we are pleased to present an array of gold and silver pocket watches in our upcoming auction. The pocket watch was invented around 1510 by Peter Henlein. However, they were typically worn around the neck as they were of spherical form. They were also extremely exclusive. The first true ‘pocket’ watches began to appear after Charles II of England’s popularisation of the waistcoat. Up until the mid to late-1800s, pocket watches were mainly worn by nobility and royalty. The Industrial Revolution changed this using assembly lines, allowing for mass production. This made them widely available and affordable. They were produced in base metals as well as silver and gold. Fur thermore, we are delighted to present to you an interesting pocket watch in our upcoming June auction. Lot 400 is a 1903 ‘Gordon-Bennett Cup Race’ silver pocket watch. This watch was presented to the driving teams, timekeepers, etc of the 1903 Gordon-Bennett Motor Race. This race is often referred to as ‘the race that saved motorspor t’, it shifted motorspor t away from the deadly open roads to a closed- circuit format. The watch was diligently assembled by Stauffer Sons Co., internationally well-respected and high-end watchmakers from the time. This lot is estimated to sell between €1800 – 2200. As well as this, we have an eye-catching 19th century 10ct gold pocket watch presented to Reverand James Nish in 1890 while on a mission in Australia, along with a selection of other gold and silver pocket watches to includeWaltham, Elgin, J.R. Lund, etc. Please contact us at info@oreillysfinear t.com . LIVE AUCTION OF FINE JEWELLERY, WATCHES, SILVER & COINS • WEDNESDAY, 24th JUNE 2026 AT 12PM
