LOT 292 A DIAMOND SET LINE BRACELET, the illusion set diamonds mounted in silver, (.925). Estimated: weight of diamonds: 0.50 ct. €200 - €300 6 This bracelet design was popularized during the 1920’s when it was recognised as an eternity bracelet. Precious stones were set in a continuous band, representing eternal love. The eternity bracelet later became known as the tennis bracelet in 1987 by tennis player Chris Ever t at the US open, when a diamond bracelet she was wearing famously fell off her wrist, which resulted in her pausing the game until she retrieved it. This resulted in the mass marketing and rebranding of the previously known eternity bracelet into the contemporary tennis bracelet. Modern renditions of the tennis bracelet feature various cuts and types of colourful gemstones. The prominence of the bracelet came as a result of a marketing campaign in the 1980’s, which in turn gave rise to the slogan “A diamond is forever”. In our January auction, we have a wide selection of line bracelets, from traditional diamond tennis bracelets to a modern take with a rainbow sapphire example!
